gang history
the pub years: 1995-2005
The gang as we know it started out at Fulford School, having known each other in varying degrees over the years. In 1995, a group of friends formed in a part of the 6th form common room known as Sad Bastard Square (by the even sadder lasses from No Friends Corner). Milner, Guesty, Derms, Britain, Si, Jig, Frank, Darian, Wyatt, Williamson, Laura and Farley were the most permenant residents, while the likes of Rhian Crack-Whore, Julie Gibson and Helen Anderson were occasional visitors
The gang remained almost intact until mid 97, Frank had long since departed and Jig didn't quite make the end of 6th form, but at the end of school, it was time for people to head their seperate ways
Between 1997 and 1999 the Fulford Old Boys slipped into a familiar routine, Milner, Guesty and Derms were the regulars, Ploughing it big style every Tuesday, with
weekend outings to York. Britain and Si made regularish appearances whenever they weren't at uni and kept in touch over e-mail most of the time, but only a few of the former gang made odd appearances here and there
The 3rd year of uni saw Britain taking a year out and working in York, and becoming a regular with the other 3, Si continued to appear when he could and with Jig
moving further north he became an occasional squad member, especially for nights in Leeds. 2000 also saw the beginning of the female infiltration of the gang,
with Katy stalking her way into Guesty's affections and Lucy's memorable debut in the Lowther, along with the party at the Everitts'
With Britain going back to uni in late 2000 he returned to making guest appearances, Derms departed to be someone's long-haired lover in Liverpool, never to be seen again. That left Milner and Guesty as the only regulars, while Si, Jig and Lu's most regular outings were as a result of gigs (musical, not Ryan)
Guesty became more busy with work and Katy commitments in 01/02, and he took on a reduced role in the gang. Thursday nights down the Derry became the new Saturday in town, and the unlikely triad of Milner, Britain and Si were the core of the FOBs. Cheap drinks, Prosthetic Ass, Mrs Ass and the scary dog led to months of Thursday-night fun in Heslington. Jig was now becoming more regular in his appearances as he looked to move back full time, and Lu made more frequent appearances, usually when Guesty wasn't there due to tension over a car door incident
After Jig moved to Escrick the shape of the gang changed once again, Guesty was more inclined to go out again, and Saturday nights at Keystones became the norm. Derry nights continued for a while, but Jig's desire to go into town and the end of the cheap Thursdays meant that they all but died out, with the midweek outings also on the decline Si was ousted from his regular slot due to weekend football commitments, and generally being bored by the same old pubs all the time. Lucy was now legal and discovering a love of gin, but only came out whenever her big brother was around
The landscape of the gang changed again as we headed to 2004, as Caffreys dried up around York and Guesty moved in with Katy, his appearances dwindled, leaving Milner, Jig and Britain as the core members, Joe proved that he actually existed to more than just a select few, and was often out on a Saturday night, while Si continued to make sporadic appearances, whilst also having separate nights out with John and Lu, which was a precursor to the next big shift in the group...
