dicegame marathon
planning stage description by chrisb - early 2007
In an age of multiple dicegames, where concepts new and old take months to complete, there's nowhere for classic or experimental games to fit in the schedule, so in the same way as Gameshow Marathon brought back some old gameshows, the Dicegame Marathon aims to do the same things, just without any Geordie scallys or Vernon bloody Kay.
Rather than playing one dicegame on a night out, there's the potential to play a few, just roll the dice to select a game, before playing that game to choose a pub
Here's the potential line-up of games
1 (Vertical Pub) Blockbusters - want a P? you roll for a lettter then roll for a pub
2 Bullseye - get a red segment to go to that pub, or the Bullseye earns a trip to the Ackhorne
3 Dice of Fortune - roll for a pub name, choose 4 consonants and a vowel and try to solve the hangman-style puzzle to go to that pub
4 Double Football Dice - roll 2 dice to select your pub, then try to score to win the game
5 F1 - each person chooses a pub to race for, first to complete a lap of the track gets to go to that pub
6 Pubopoly - land on a street and choose a pub to go to that's on it
other games could be substituted into each slot, and it gives a chance to some of the less fortunate dice games to get another outing
a christmas rollathon or new year merriment
A modified version of the dicegame marathon (internationally known as dicegame snickers) occurred just after Christmas 2007 (the acronym is ACRONYM).
Here's a list of the games we played:
1: Pubopoly - items needed: Pubopoly board, pub list, two 6-sided dice
The player rolls the dice and decides whether to go to a pub on the street they land on, if they roll a double they can roll again to try and get something better. If a player decides against going to a pub on their street or lands on a square that doesn't lead to a street, then the dice move on to the next player
2: Trivial Pursuit - items needed: trivial pursuit dice, map, questions
The city is divided into 6 coloured wedges. The player rolls for a wedge, and has to answer a question to go to a pub in that sector
3: Bullseye - items needed: dartboard, darts
Each red sector represents a pub, the player throws the two darts and tries to hit the red sectors. If the thrower only hits black sectors or the darts don't stick, then the darts move on to the next player. If one red sector is hit then that's the pub we go to, more than one red sector gives the thrower the choice of the two pubs to go to, but 2 darts in the same red sector means the darts move on to the next player. Stay out of the black and in the red, you get nothing in this game for 2 in a bed
4: Dice of Fortune - items needed: pub hangmans, 6-sided dice
The player rolls the dice to decide which puzzle they're trying to solve, then chooses 4 consonants and 1 vowel, which will be added to the puzzle to try and help the player to solve it. If the player solves the puzzle, we go to that pub, failure to solve the puzzle means the next player gets to roll for a puzzle to try and solve
5: Formula One - items needed: race track map, 12-sided dice
Players choose a pub to represent before the race. Each player takes it in turns to roll the dice, the numbers each represent a corner, the first person to complete a lap of the circuit gets to go to their pub
6: Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? - items needed: pub list, questions, 6-sided dice
The player tries to answer 15 questions to get the best pub. The player can either take the regular 3 lifelines or gamble them by rolling the dice to determine how many lifelines they get
7: Blockbusters - items needed: blockbusters board, 6-sided dice
Starting in the top left hand corner, players take it in turns to roll the dice in an attempt to roll a 6, roll anything else and the next player attempts to roll for the next letter across. When someone rolls a 6, we go to a pub that begins with the letter they were on. Blockbusters was a replacement for the game that was played first
