a-z
description by si - early 2007
Although Si had been planning it since before Christmas '04, the first ever dicenight came to fruition in mid Feb '05 on one of the most freezing nights known to man. Si and JW met in Ye Olde Starre Inne for tea (which would become a ritual) and then proceeded to go to Ackhorne (the only A at that time) before JW made the historic first roll and they went to lovely cosy Black Swan.
It was arguably the best ever Black Swan experience as this pub has sadly been in decline in 2007.
Cock and Bottle was next, JW again allowed the roll and it was a decent choice. The lack of 'D' options was a problem so the boyz got a taxi to Dormouse before a long walk back to JW's, Si stayed over cos way too pissed and felt the mong the next day for work.
The rest is history and although 2006's crawl was less memorable, the number of dicegamers has risen steadily and everyone is looking forward to the summer 2007 A-Z...
a-z 2015
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of dicegames, the 2015 A-Z was timed to begin in February. With two Dukes of York and the Dean Court Hotel Bar available, D was no longer an issue in town, although Evil I was a necessary cheat for I, eXhibition was X, leacing E itself looking rather sparse.
With a voting element now a familiar feature of dicegames, it seemed right to add one to the A-Z too. But to compare all 26 pubs fairly, the regular head to head system and Scottish voting wouldn't work. Instead each pub had it's own vote, scoring between 0 and 3 from each person for each of the regular categories, with the total divided by the number of people out so that the average scores could be compared.
Waggon and Horses came out on top and at some point will face 2013-15 FUCKDUP winner Blue Bell in a sort of Charity Shield/UEFA Super Cup type face-off.
