big 100
description
Unlike most games, this had a simple idea of going to lots of different pubs with not many rules, according to Si: "the aim of this competition was to really prove York has more to offer than the 32 or so pubs we consider for FUCKDUP and Champs League. We are just gonna try and get round 100 pubs without going to somewhere really horrendous. i.e. will we risk Varsity if it means avoiding Burtonstone Tav".
The Big 100 was put on hold after 10/11 as it was Jig's turn to choose the next set of pubs. In 2015, it seemed kind of silly to carry on where we left off as so many pubs had opened, closed or changed, and with the 'craft ale revolution' it should be easy to do 100 York pubs now, although it's possible to complete it cask-only.
2015-16 rules
Each week, a different person chooses the starting pub and the possible pubs to visit for the rest of the night.
The initial picking order is a spontaneous act of wonderment where somebody decides they're doing it.
Once each person has had a turn, the choosing order rotates in the same order for the rest of the competition.
If somebody misses their week to pick, they get to choose next time (although absentee pub nomination is acceptable).
The normal course events will begin in one definite pub. Maybe you want guaranteed quality with slightly lesser options, or maybe opt for an off-the-wall choice to start the night before a night of tried and trusted favourites. It could even be a case of practicality since the only way to guarantee that places like Shambles Tavern to be open is to go there first, or you might need to smuggle an underage Lucy Everitt into Maltings before the bouncers come on (though it's unlikely Lu will suffer from bouncer problems now).
The rest of the evening will see us visit three more pubs, how these are determined is up to the chooser.
Since the aim is to visit a lot of pubs, there's no staying in the same place (unless time is running out right at the end of the night)
At the end of the night there's a vote for the best pub, with the winner(s) getting a Champions League place.

The rest of the evening will see us visit three more pubs, how these are determined is up to the chooser.
- The pure dicegame version sees six pubs allocated to sides of a dice and whichever one you roll, you go to. Whether you add replacement pubs once a number has been rolled, allocate your preferred destination another number or simply re-roll is up to the night's chooser.
- If somebody wants more control they can add some bias to the rolling options by giving preferred pubs more than one number, or just include three pubs with two numbers each, so only the visiting order is random.
- The more random pub picker might opt for a bigger dice with loads of options.
- The even more random pub picker might bring a draw machine instead of a dice.
- The ridiculously elaborate pub picker may learn magic and perform a card trick in which the chosen pub is found folded up in somebody's pocket.
- Or the more reserved pub picker might just choose 4 pubs to visit in order and miss out the dice element entirely (this may be desirable if doing a pocket of out of the way pubs)
- In an unanticipated batshit insane twist that wasn't mentioned in the original rules, I decided to go even more extreme for my birthday, creating a dicegame within a dicegame and using Pubopoly as a way to choose pubs 17-20 (see the Pubopoly section for more details).
Since the aim is to visit a lot of pubs, there's no staying in the same place (unless time is running out right at the end of the night)
At the end of the night there's a vote for the best pub, with the winner(s) getting a Champions League place.

further details of the 2008 game
When choosing which pubs to visit it was important to get a range of good and mediocre pubs rather than going to all the good ones in one night, otherwise you'd be left with a lot of crap nights out towards the end. Often it was a good idea to go to a number of pubs that are close together and on the rare occasion of someone driving, take advantage of it to go to some far out places.
To add a dice element to the game, the four regulars each rolled the 20-sided dice in each pub. The totals for each pub were recorded to find out which was York's luckiest pub. As well as the pub element, individual rolling success was important, as the highest scorer of each night got to select the four pubs for the next night out.
